Drain Relining

Pitch Fibre

Pitch fibre pipes were used between the 1950's and 1970's and are a poor type of drainage material. Normal waste water can drain smoothly through pitch fibre piping, however it can react adversely when hot water, fats or oils run through it.

Pitch fibre is made from wood cellulose and coal tar which over time warps when it is exposed to water and high temperatures.

Soak Aways

A soak away is a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) and is effectively a hole filled with rubble, stone or crates that allows the water to be evenly soaked into the ground without causing flooding. Soak away's should not be installed within clay soils as this will cause major problems with waterlogging and flooding.

Soak away's are an effective way to drain storm water at the source instead of putting pressure on sewer systems that are more prone to water damage.

The great thing about soak away's is that they are very easy to maintain and much more cost effective than other drainage solutions. It is advisable however that you make sure they are checked every couple of months for any silting or contamination.
